FAQs

Is counseling for everyone?

Yes. Counseling is for everyone, not just those who are severely debilitated. Much of my clientele are high-functioning and capable people who just need some help overcoming an obstacle or achieving a goal. The old stigmas about therapy are long gone. These days, many healthy and influential people enjoy the benefits of a supportive, therapeutic relationship.

Do you take insurance?

I provide my clients with the information they need to file directly with their insurance provider should they choose to do so. The client pays for my services directly, but can choose to file for a degree of reimbursement from their insurance company.

What is counseling like?

Counseling is a form of self-care. It is like a massage for the soul. Sometimes there are knots or kinks that need to be worked out, and that can be uncomfortable. But, the process brings about relief. Most times the experience is soothing. It is about being able to relax and feel supported in a truly safe environment, speaking with someone who’s only focus is to support and empower you.

Are there benefits to ‘non-insurance’, or direct pay, therapy?

Yes. Many of my clients value the privacy that comes with a direct pay system. Since our relationship is not dependent upon insurance, there is no need to file a diagnosis with one’s insurance company, which can affect coverage rates, risk determinations, privacy and more. There are also no limits imposed on therapy because the insurance company doesn’t dictate the type and duration of treatment, the therapist and client are able to do so.

If I start counseling, how long will I be going?

That’s up to you. Your counseling plan will be taylored to your individual needs and wants.

Will you tell anyone what I disclose to you?

Apart from a couple of universal and rare legal exceptions (which are disclosed upon intake), your identity and the content of what we discuss in therapy will remain 100% confidential. It is my legal and ethical obligation to protect your privacy. I take that responsibility very seriously. One of the greatest benefits of therapy is that you are in a truly safe relationship. You are free to share your innermost thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment or exposure.
